This is how the quintessential Tuscan Christmas biscuits are born. Siena is the capital of ricciarello, which owes its name to the knight Ricciardetto Della Gherardesca . Having returned to Volterra from the East, he in fact associated these biscuits with the shoes with the curled toe typical of Middle Eastern footwear.
